Captive Fastener
Captive Fasteners – Panel Screws PF11
Captive Panel Screws are large knob, spring-loaded screws with a self-clinching installation and a knurled metal cap known as the PF11 style.
These solve the problem of having loose screws in removable access panels as the screw remains captive in the fastener body at all times.
Ideal for connecting metal panels or other thin material components and facilitates easy and quick opening/closing.
Special Features
- Shoulder on the fastener retainer provides a positive stop during installation.
- Installs flush on back side of the panel
- Available in three screw lengths.
- Universal combi-drive (Phillips and slotted).
- The panel Screw is made of Stainless Steel, the fastener body of hardened steel and the knurled aluminium knob provides convenient hand operation.
Available in metric and unified thread options.

Installation Guide
- Prepare the Mounting Hole: Ensure the mounting hole in the sheet is properly sized and aligned. Avoid any secondary operations such as deburring the mounting holes, as the rough metal is used to help clinch the fastener into the sheet.
- Position the Fastener: Place the fastener in the hole on the punched side of the panel and ensure that the fastener shank is within the hole before applying pressure.
- Apply Pressure: Keep the installation punch and anvil surface parallel and apply a steady squeezing force until the shoulder of the retainer comes in contact with the sheet material.
- Installation Direction: Install the screw from the opposite side of the fastener, directing the load toward the sheet. Avoid installing the screw in the head side of the fastener
DO NOT:
- Do not install steel and stainless fasteners in aluminum before the panels have been anodized.
- Do not deburr mounting holes, as the rough metal is used to help clinch the fastener into the sheet.
- Do not install the fastener closer to the edge of the sheet than specified in the dimension table for the fastener in use.
- Do not over squeeze, as this may flatten the fastener head, distort the thread and buckle the panel.
- Do not install fastener with a hammer blow; doing so does not allow sufficient time for the sheet metal to flow into the clinching profile. A squeezing force is required for optimum performance.
- Do not install the screw in the head side of the fastener, but from the opposite side, which directs the load toward the sheet.
