BaerCoil Free Running Inserts
BaerCoil® Free Running Thread Inserts
Free running thread inserts are ideal for thread repair and thread reinforcement.
BaerCoil® thread inserts are made from austenitic chromium-nickel steel (stainless steel AISI 304 with a material tensile strength of at least 1400 N/mm²). In production the wire is swaged in cold-form to a rhombic cross-section, which ensures performance and maximum space utilization. With BaerCoil® thread inserts you achieve a better thread connection in regard to wear resistance, thread abrasion, surface finish, corrosion- and heat resistance than with any other single screw connection.

Features:
Greater in diameter than the tapped hole.
The diameter of the leading coil reduces due to the torque applied to the tang during assembly to allow it to enter the tapped thread
The coils then expands with a spring-like action anchoring the insert permanently in place against the tapped hole.
The helical insert automatically adjusts itself, radially and axially, to any expansion or contraction of the parent material.
No staking, locking, swaging, keying, nor interference fit is required to retain helical thread inserts
Eliminates stress concentration in parent material.
Available in both, metric and inch series
M1.5 to M30
UNC: 2-56 to 1″
BSW: 3/16 to 1″
UNF: 6-40 to 1″
Fine pitch inserts available

BAERCOIL Tangless Thread Inserts
BaerCoil thread inserts are also available with no Tang, eliminating the need to break and remove the tang after installation of the thread insert.
These tangless thread inserts have a small notch on the inside of the insert at either end of the spiral. The inserting tool grips the notch for inserting. The notches on either end allow the insert to be inserted from either end, eliminating the need for orienting the top/bottom of the insert, thus saving time and effort.
Benefits of Tangless Inserts –
- Breaking tenons becomes superfluous: This not only saves you a work step, but also the effort of testing and documentation when a tang has disappeared into the component never to be seen again.
- Increased working speed: With the NoTang thread insert without tang, you don’t have to first determine where the top and bottom are, because it can be used on both sides. You will quickly notice how much time is saved by this small step during continuous use!
- Smooth workflow: The less often an activity is interrupted by small work steps, the easier it is to perform. The NoTang tangless thread insert clears up several time wasters at once and ensures results that are fun to work with.
- Compatible with the BaerCoil system: Apart from the NoTang installation tool, you don’t have to buy any new accessories because the receiving thread of the tangless thread inserts is identical to that of the conventional BaerCoil wire thread inserts. Installation also works exactly as you are already used to.

USAGE NOTES
Length of the insert is specified as length of the insert after installation and NOT when the coil is measured prior to installation. Wire thread inserts are essentially springs. They compress(diameter reduces) into the tapped hole while installation thus lengthening.

Install Tip:
One of the reasons that Wire thread inserts fail in service is that they are improperly installed initially.
A good rule-of-thumb is to install the coil so that the top of the insert is 1/4 to 1/2 turn below the top surface of the workpiece. One easy way to determine the installed depth is detailed below.
- Before beginning the installation process, look closely at the STI threads cut in the hole. Notice the location where the STI thread first starts to enter the hole.
- Make a small temporary reference mark on the surface of the housing that is rotated 3/4 turn from the location where the STI thread first enters the hole. This mark is used determine the installed depth of the insert.
- Install the insert using the process previously described, and screw the Baercoil into the housing until the (non-tang) end of the insert is rotationally aligned with the temporary reference mark. Following this process, the top of the insert is installed 1/4 turn below the top surface of the housing.
- If a deeper seating of the insert is desired, rotate the installation tool up to 1/4 additional turn.
